Getting to Know LauraLaura Albert, our Educational Services Manager, joined Orchard almost three years ago. Her team is responsible for the documentation and training we produce, including the new Orchard eLearning offering. An Indiana University alum, Laura has family close by, along with a brother who lives in Maine, which provides a great excuse to enjoy one of her favorite past times– travelling! We recently asked Laura to share more about how she came to Orchard and about some of her favorite things. |
More from Laura…
What types of projects/assignments have you worked on?
Lots of great projects! Our team (with the help of many others!), launched a subscription-based eLearning product in January. We hope eLearning helps our customers find what they need, fast! Excited to see how we can continue to expand our library offerings. We’re also excited about the new product names and branding. The new look and feel is fun to work with, and we already see the product names helping add clarity to our content.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The people I get to work with. I’m on a great team—and our position allows us to work with all kinds of teams across the company. Great to feel we have a hand in supporting the constant improvements we are making in our products.
Where did you work (or what type of work did you do) before joining our company?
I worked for 19 years at a publishing company. I spent many years in Content Management, proofreading and managing font licensing, then later worked on accessibility initiatives for the Higher Education team. Great to have a positive impact on A11y efforts!
What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?
I enjoy finding new hikes and exploring places around the city. I’m also excited to see live music and go to hockey games again soon!
Motto or personal mantra?
Let’s try it! We can always adjust later.
Favorite newspaper, blog, or podcast?
BBC and This American Life podcast
Where’s your favorite place in the world?
A new brewery, especially when traveling. Opportunity to support a local business, and often meet interesting people that have great tips on places to go.
What’s the last book you read?
I like history. Recently read Ernie Pyle in England. Interesting to find so many similarities between the Blitz and our own quarantining. People making sacrifices in their daily lives to keep their families and neighbors safe.
Favorite sport?
Hockey. (Let’s Go Red Wings!)
What is on your bucket list?
Traveling around New Zealand.
